On the open road to points west with friends, used to spend a night in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We'd always make a special stop in Old Town, a quaint little tourist spot. There was an old church, a park setting, a gazebo, lots of gift and souvenir shops, an ice cream parlor, and a nice shopping plaza.
It was relaxing and so much fun to just sit on a park bench, chat with friends, and do some people-watching. People are much friendlier (happier) on vacation, not having to punch a time card on a work clock.
